Since Ruby didn’t witness the interaction between Sam and his support worker, she should contact the direct support agency to report the situation, ask them to try to get Sam’s money back, and to send a different male worker to help Sam.

Ruby will facilitate a meeting with Sam and his mom to discuss access to Sam’s bank account.

Ruby knows that Sam might be vulnerable and this situation may warrant further outside investigation. She should follow her state and HCBS waiver regulations regarding suspected exploitation including talking to someone at Adult Protective Services (APS) to see if this might be financial exploitation.
